Who we are

LiaKea Beauty Tribe is published by a team of professionals active across the entire sector, from plant to bottle: selecting varieties, cultivating fragrance plants, distilling and producing absolutes, and the art of perfumery and formulation itself. We're not journalists, we're professionals deeply involved in every stage of this process, not just the finished fragrance.

We also support agroecological production initiatives across several African and Asian countries. This outlet grew directly out of that work: staying informed about supply chains, regulations and the key players shaping the industry is an integral part of that same work.

Our approach

LiaKea Beauty Tribe covers the origins that matter for fragrance and cosmetics: the raw materials, markets, regulations and people connecting Africa, the Gulf and Asia to the global beauty industry, from where materials are grown to how they're turned into finished fragrance. Vanilla in Madagascar, sandalwood in India, ylang-ylang in the Comoros, patchouli in Indonesia, rose in Morocco: the places where the industry's most valuable materials actually come from, the people who grow, distill and trade them, and the perfumers and formulators who work with them.

Being perfumers and formulators ourselves shapes how we read this industry: we're as interested in what a material can actually do in a formulation as in where it was grown or how its price moved.
